Heather's Everyday Carry / Everyday Use (January 2021)

In this video Heather shares some of the things she uses every day.

0:03 Solar Panels, time-lapse on a typical NZ day - Heather has 18 solar panels that can generate 5kw of power. 2021 marks her 10th anniversary of living off the power grid with solar power.

0:19 Mate Unit - Heather's off grid system uses an Outback Inverter and Charge Controller (Regulator) which connect to the mate unit. This is a display unit situated in the dining area, next to an indoor thermometer, and it shows the total charge of the battery bank and what the power load is on the system. She uses this to determine her daily activities.
0:34 EDU - Handbag, phone, 365 Journal, watch, pen, glasses, hair tie, sunglasses, mug, headphones and ipad mini with Brydge keyboard.

0:44 Handbag: has a long strap to be able to wear the bag across the body.
Inside the bag: heavy duty reusable bags, purse, spare hair ties, pen, pencil, face mask, microfibre cloth, earplugs and their own storage container, small black purse for personal items. Not shown: house & car key.

1:02 Sunglass case carried in handbag, to swap between indoor glasses and prescription sunglasses. The microfibre cloth stored in the case is the best one Heather owns that came from a Lifeproof phone case.

1:15 365 Journal is part of Heather's daily self-care routine.

1:21 Phone: Samsung S9 (lock screen: Heather's 2020 birthday cake, phone background: buttercup photo taken by Heather). Apps incl: weather app, NZ Covid Tracer app, YT music, keep notes, timebuddy, calendar and acuity scheduler.

1:29 iPad mini with Brydge keyboard is Heather's office when she's out of the office (wallpaper art is by Midori Pro).

1:41 Very quick Office Tour

1:50 Home-made underdesk storage solution for her audio interface. The shelf moves back and forth, and turns side to side.

Bandrew's Favorite Things of 2020

2020 has been an absolutely insane year and to say it’s been challenging would be the understatement of the century. As an antisocial person, I was better suited for what this year brought but it even impacted me quite a lot, and I wanted to share 3 things that I got a lot of joy out of and helped me through 2020.

First up is the Neumann U67 which is less about the actual item, and more of a way to celebrate the fact that I have had 5 years of consistent uploading on the Podcastage youtube channel, and it has been an absolute blast to use whenever I get the chance. It has allowed to have a constant reminder of the hard work I’ve put in to the channel which never ceases to put a smile on my face.

Second on the list are watches. YouTube started recommending me a bunch of watch videos and my appreciation of watches went from an appreciation to an all out love of them. They have provided a sense of order and consistency that has been lacking this year, and it has helped me remember the day of the week and day it is which has been great.

Lastly is Discord. A company I don’t trust, and don’t like all that much, but the Podcastage community has been essential for me this year to stay sane. A lot of folks have struggled with isolation, but having a group of people to voice chat with, play games with, watch movies with, or just vent to has really helped out this year, and I don’t think i would have made it out of this year as “sane” as I am had it not been for everyone on discord.

Let me know what some of your favorite things of 2020 are that helped you get through this year.
