PHXCCC: X-Philes Live On

On Friday, June 3rd 2016 at 1:30 pm, those who still want to believe descended on Phoenix Comic Con. The conspiracy theorists, and FBI's most unwanted met up to discuss their favorite episodes, the relevance of X-files in the current age, and answer some fun trivia questions.

Panelists:

Discussion:

Being that this was a fandom panel, where the main focus of the panel was discussing favorite episodes, and answering trivia, I figured I would approach this article in a different way. I do not think that transcribing the discussion would do this panel justice. I feel like the best way to capture the true spirit of this panel would be to act as an additional panelist and discuss my favorite episodes.

  • Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose
This is an episode that shows up on every top 10 list and there is a reason. The main focus of the story is around Clyde Bruckman, an insurance salesman who can see how people die. The interesting twist is that the monster of the week in this episode is also a psychic, so you end up with some interesting interactions that would otherwise be impossible. However, the x-file in this episode is not what won an emmy; the excellent writing and believable nature of Bruckman's misery is what won it that award. The loneliness of Clyde is undeniable in the script and is then cemented by Peter Boyle's performance. One of the highlights is when you see the witty back and forth that Bruckman shares with Scully while sitting together in a motel room. The story is a near perfect portrayal of a lonely man looking for any connection with another human. There is some light at the end of the tunnel though because I like to think that he found that connection, however briefly it might have lasted.

  • Sleepless
In this episode, we follow a group of Vietnam veterans who have been experimented on by the government. The experiment was conducted in order to create a group of soldiers that would never have to sleep. The procedure consisted of removing part of the brain which tells the body that it needs rest. While in Vietnam, this group of modified special ops soldiers were some of the deadliest in the war. However, twenty four years after the war has ended, without one hour of sleep, a single soldier decides to take revenge on those responsible for his pain. Although this may not be the most plausible of x-files, it is one of the most interesting to think about. We know that the government has the scientists to carry out experiments like this. We also know that if certain experimentation provided a tactical advantage, it would be difficult for the military to ignore. That just leaves the one question; is the government conducting horrifying experiments on their soldiers?

  • Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man
The reason this episode is in my top list is because we get some really interesting backstory about The CSM (cigarette smoking man). Throughout the episode we see how the CSM shaped the modern day world, whether it be the JFK assassination or the MLK assassination. To me, this was very fun to see, but the most interesting part about this episode was the discovery of CSM's passion. He wanted to be a writer. The moment that sold me on this episode is when after years of submitting stories, and years of rejection letters, he finally gets accepted to a magazine. He types up a resignation letter (to whoever CSM's boss could be) and goes to the newstand to pick up a copy of the magazine that contains the story. Once he realizes the magazine altered his story, turning it to crap, he is heart broken. He ends up tearing up his resignation letter and leaving the magazine on a bus stop bench. I believe that this is a pivotal moment for the character. This was the death of his last bit of hope and humanity. Without this rejection letter, I do not think that the X-files would have ever come to be.

Conclusion

I think that this panel is a perfect example of why comic-cons are such special events. In the real world, I only have one friend who is interested in the x-files. The remainder of my friends simply do not understand or appreciate the masterpiece created by Chris Carter. But for this one hour, on one day, I was surrounded by 100 people who share the same passion as me. A group of new friends. A group of fellow X-philes who I can chat with about my favorite episodes, or deconstruct the subtext of Mulder & Skully Meet the Weremonster, without having to worry about a confused look coming across their face.

This was hands down my favorite panel of the entire weekend, and I hope to see these folks revisit their panel at Tucson Comic Con in November.

PHXCCC: Do You Even Podcast? Panel

On the last day of Phoenix Comic Con 2016, Logan from The Paper Robots, Matt from Absolute Geek Podcast, & Bandrew from The Bandrew Says Podcast ran a panel titled "Do You Even Podcast?".

In this panel, they briefly touched on their podcasting motivations and history, and then dive into Q&A with an awesome audience. The topics covered range from what's the best audio gear to start a podcast with to how do you host your podcast to how do you prepare for a podcast episode. If you are new to podcasting or if you plan on starting your own podcast, this is a must watch.

PHXCCC: How do I pitch my property?

Friday June 3rd 10:30-11:30am

Topic:

Whether to a publisher, a TV network, a studio, or a production company, your work won't sell itself. Pitching is more than just telling the plot or your comic book, graphic novel, television, or movie idea. In an extremely short amount of time you must convey the meesage of your project, get the listener emotionally invested in the story, and explain why your property deserves to be developed instead of the hundereds of others. The panelists will walk you through the six parts of a good pitch, with pratical advice on how to be clear and compelling.

Panelists:

  • Douglas Eboch (Screen Writer)
  • Joshua Blaylock ( Writer Devil's Due Comics)
  • Ken F. Levin (Co-Founder of First Comics)

Discussion:

Though the panel went by faster than hoped this group of professionals in their fields provided a lot of great points for pitching you porject to publishers. The majority of us listeners were there for comic publishing so the focus was centered around pitching a comic property.

Ken F Levin provided most of the information as he has been in the undustry the longest and done everything from pick a creators project turn it into a comic to helping bring the comic "Road to Perdistion" to the big screen. He broke it down into four points. Keep in mind this wasn't how to get started this is for people looking to sell there already made project or nearly finished property. IE: A on going comic series or graphic novel.

  • Decide what your project can be.

This means can your comic be adapted to a cartoon or does it warrant an hour long drama. Is it a movie, or videogame.

  • What's you dedication?

Decide what you want your porject to be and how dedicated or "married" to that idea you are. Ken says once you sign the papers you give up your vote. So you need to sell the property and make the people looking believe what you believe. This brings us to the next point.

  • Test run your pitch./Pitch to the least likely of people.

Once you know what you want from your property or project you need to start learning and practicing how to articulate it to strangers and potential publishers. If you can find friends you that don't already know your story just verbally pitching it to them and see if they get it. This will help focus your idea and make it as clear and simple as possible. The next part of this is find publishers you either think they won't take your idea or you don't want them too. This is a great way to get in the room and have actually companies ask questions about your property, this is a trail and then you will hopefully learn what else needs to be improved on.

  • Always have a face to face meeting.

Ken says as someone in the undustry you can believe or trust something or someone is real without a face to face. Face to face can inlcude skype or a face time live chat but what he is trying to explain is that once you put a project out there you can get spammed but "publishers" and to be careful. You have people contacting you which is a sign of value but others might just try to be buying your idea for as cheap as possible.

I wish the panel went more into detail about the earlier stages of publishing but this was vital information regardless.

The Paper Robots Episode 66: Hector/ Beard & Frog

This episode features Micah and Artist Hector Ceniceros.

We all join together at mi casa to chat about the Comic "Beard & Frog" coming out June 22nd. I (Logan) wrote the book with Hector on Art!

Superhero Sunday: Nightcrawler

BAMF! Let's teleport right into this month's Superhero Sunday the blue skinned horned tail, Nightcrawler.

The History

Nightcrawler created in 1975 by Dave Cockrum and Len Wein for Marvel and the X-Men. Cockrum originally came up with Nightcrawler while stationed in Guam for the U.S. Navy. At that time Nightcrawler's concept was a demon who failed a mission and stayed on earth (Earth616) he also wore trunks instead of the full costume.

Nightcrawler Debuted in "Giant Size X-Men #1" (1975).

Cockrum pitched the character to DC and was rejected but later he started working at Marvel and X-Men with Roy Thomas. It was then he submitted Nightcrawler and had to change him to German decent and thus we got the mutant he is today.

The Character

Nightcrawler is the son of Azazel the demon and the mutant Mystique. He was abandoned in german and raised by gypsy queen. His birth name was Kurt. He would grow up in the circus as a happy child receving his teleportation ability at puberty and getting the name Nightcrawler as a performer. During his time in the circus he picked up his skills with agility and sword skills.

Some time later he gets caught up and hunted in a town who see him as a demon. Kurt was a man of faith and struggled with this identiy and how the people around him would hate him. While being hunted he runs into Professor Charles Xavier the leader of the X-Men.

Nightcrawler meets Shadow Cat (Kitty Pryde) while fighting a sorcerer and he joins the X-Men as it is a place he feels accepted for his abilities and appearance. During his time on the X-Men he would go on a side journey and create a team called Excalibur with Nightcralwer and his N-Men.  He lead the team while Captian Britian went off with Meggan. Once they returned Nightcrawler returned to the X-Men.

Nightcrawler would bounce around as team leader of new mutants and being put in various spots with many teams. House of M occurs and there are no more muntants then years later the first Mutant comes by during the Messiah Complex.  It was after House of M that Wolverine and Kurt would spend more time on missions together. They had a back and forth friendship and the depth of their friendship was proven during the events of Second Coming in which Bastion attacks and kills Nightcrawler. Cable takes Hope the muntant Nightcrawler and the X-Force were trying to protect.

His death remained from 2010 to 2015. Wolverine goes on a task that Nightcralwer had left for him in a letter and thus trying to live up to all the hope Nightcrawler stood for.

His story is so much more then a few adventures and his character was friends with so many, he also had such an impact on the muntant side of Marvel. He has a mom who has a moral grey line and he father a demon.

Why this hero?

Nightcrawler is a demon creature with the heart of a saint and love for humanity, he is selfless and that was a strong characteristic for me as a kid. I really loved how he was a foil to Wolverine and never gave up on anyone. Also as a kid the blue skinned pointy eared mutant that swung swords and could teleport was "like the coolest thing."

It was of coarse the 90's cartoon that showed me Nightcrawler (im sure the music is now stuck in your head). But I loved him in the comics and future cartoons/movies as well.

The Shrieker Podcast 009: Nicholas Hopkins

After making things awkward with baby chickens, Nicholas Hopkins returns to The Shrieker to talk to us about the development of his first game.

Cyclopean Stars is a lovecraftian (not to be confused with cthulhuian) Powered by the Apocalypse game. Nick felt driven to write this game because other games in the genre just don’t do what he wants. Call of Cthulhu, the first mythos game, introduced a sanity mechanic to RPGs. Trail of Cthulhu, using the Gumshoe system, created a more flexible investigation system. Tremulustries really hard to emulate Call of Cthulhu, which was a misstep in Nick’s estimation. In Cyclopean Stars Nick wants to make a modern, narrative driven, long term game that is low prep (with a procedurally generated mysteries) that lets players quickly get wrapped up in a messy, corrupting world where you can’t help but get isolated from your past live. Nick’s game is still pretty early in it’s development but he’s hoping to playtest it as much as possible at Origins. You can follow or get involved in the development of Cyclopean Stars on the game’s G+ community.

This month you can download a Lovecraft inspired Apocalypse World style front, ready to drop squamulous horrors into your game.

The Free RPG Society: Quill is a pay-what-you-want, solo RPG based on letter writing. It’s fun but might not actually be an RPG. Look for a full a review on the Geeks Rising blog.

Do You Even Comic: Rat Queens

3468064-rat+queens+01.jpg

Time to band together and collect our rewards as we venture into this month's Do You Even Comic with Rat Queens.

The History

Released in September of 2013 by Image Comics, Rat Queens is written by Kurtis J. Wiebe with art by various artists. The book started with art by Roc Upchurch, followed by Stjepan Sejic taking over and now Tess Fowler is the current artist. The concept for Rat Queens was pitched and described like this "Lord of the Rings meets Bridesmaids." Its a book that blends fantasy with a modern twist. Since its release it has been nominated for Eisner Awards and GLAAD Awards. Unfortunately the book is currently on a hiatus but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate the story that is out there now.

The Story

The story takes place in the fantasy town known as the Palisades and follows the Rat Queens, a group of beer swirling, foul-mouthed, female mercenaries. They aren't the most popular bunch among their fellow mercs and they don't follow traditions, but that's all the more reason to love them.

The team: Hannah (Rockabilly Elven Mage), Violet (Hipster Dwarven Mage), Dee (Atheist Human Cleric), and Betty (Hippy Smidgen Thief).

The Rat Queens often finish quests, leaving their town in ruins while constantly pissing off the other mercenaries who quest in the surrounding area. The story sees the Rat Queens having to face Corrupt business men and assassins. As they face serious threats they don't seem to care too much about this Dungeons and Dragons lifestyle.

Why this book?

What brought me to this book was the word of mouth praise it had been receiving and by the time volume one ("Sass and Socery") hit the shelves, I had to check it out. The book did what a lot of books what to do, it took a genre and put a fresh new spin on it.

Seriously I laughed out loud at some of the lines and hey they play with tropes of fetching quests. I love that it is infused contemporary themes.

I enjoyed every issue that has come out and hope that after the creative differences are settled we will be able to read more Rat Queens.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes adventure/fantasy/jokes.

Blue Snowflake USB Mic Review / Test

Today I am reviewing the Blue Snowflake. This is a little USB Mic that you can place directly on your desk, or mount it to your laptop and use it to improve audio for meetings.

If you are interested in this microphone, it will set you back $45 on Amazon

What's In the Box

  1. Microphone
  2. USB Cable
  3. Documentation
  4. 2-Year Warranty

Performance / Features

The build quality of the microphone is not too consistent. The metal base is nice and sturdy and has a few soft pads to ensure you don't damage your laptop when placing it over the edge of the screen. The microphone capsule has a metal grill on the front, but the back feels like cheap plastic. Also, the connection point between the mic capsule and the stand is very thin and I would be worried about this breaking off if you open and close the mic too frequently.

The frequency response is listed as 35Hz - 20kHz, and it sounds perfectly fine to me. When speaking it did sound somewhat compressed and lacking a little in the low end, but for a $45 microphone designed for Skype / Conference calls, it performs well in this area.

The polar pattern is cardioid and it performs like a cardioid mic should perform. HOWEVER, the design of this mic requires you to almost always place the mic behind your keyboard (on laptop screen, on desktop screen, below desktop monitor), ultimately placing the keyboard in between you and the mic. This means that it picks up a LOT of keyboard noise. So if you plan on typing during a call, you may want to look elsewhere.

Pros

  • Decent sound
  • Decent build quality
  • Plug & Play
  • Portable

Con

  • Noisy interface
  • Limited placement options

Conclusion

Overall, I think the mic sounds pretty nice for voice, but that's about it. I can only recommend this if you are going to be using it to improve your audio quality for skype phone calls, or if you don't mind a bit of keyboard noise in the background while gaming. Luckily, that's exactly what this mic was designed for. Skype & Conference Calls.

If you have any additional questions about this microphone, leave them in the comments on this site or on the youtube channel, and I will try to reply ASAP.

Free RPG Society: Golden Sky Stories Demo

In the April episode of The Shrieker I mentioned Golden Sky Stories, which I'm going to elaborate on here. Originally published in Japan in 2006 as Yuuyake Koyake by Ryo Kamiya, the game was translated and brought to the US in 2013 by Ewen Cluney. That year, to promote the game and to celebrate Tabletop Day, the US publisher, Star Line Publishing released a 23 page simplified free demo, which will be the focus of this review. The demo version is a complete, playable game, with a couple mechanics streamlined and a few character build options withheld.

Golden Sky Stories is radically different from any other game I've played but that's not because of it's country of origin. I am in no way an expert in Japanese games but some quick research indicates that their most popular RPGs tend to play like a mixture of D&D and JRPG video games. Golden Sky Stories does not bear much resemblance to either of those. Golden Sky Stories is powered by an unusual set of mechanics and emulates a genre of story that I've never seen an RPG tackle before.

Most RPGs thrive on high octane adventure, tales of powerful heroes facing perilous danger to thwart great evil. Not Golden Sky Stories. This game takes place in a rural Japanese village where minor animal spirits (controlled by the players) help the citizens sort through their everyday problems. Strictly slice of life stuff. The characters might help an elderly lady reconnect with her grandchildren, visiting from the big city. They might advise a local forest god who has fallen in love with a rice farmer. No dragons to slay, no treasure to collect. It's from this cute genre that Golden Sky Stories derives it's tagline, "Heart-warming Role-playing". This kind of game won't appeal to every gamer, obviously, but it could be refreshing after an intense adventure in another game or it could be the perfect game for someone who is turned off by an RPG's usual violence. My players found Golden Sky Stories to be a nice change of pace.

Combat isn't the only RPG staple that is missing from Golden Sky Stories. It's also missing the dice. Instead of dice this game bases all it's mechanics on a slightly complicated token economy. Players earn one currency (Dreams) by making their characters do cute/clever/in-character things. Dreams can be spent to increase a character's Friendship score which determines how much of two other currencies (Wonder and Feelings) the character earns at the start of each scene. Feels are spent to succeed at ability checks and Wonder is spent to activate supernatural powers. Friendship is the biggest change between the free demo and the complete game. In the full game, instead of a Friendship score you track the details of your character's relationship to every other character in the game, including the kind of relationship, the strength of your connection to other characters, and the strength of their connection to you. For it's simplicity and the easier bookkeeping, I kinda prefer just using a Friendship score. Another difference is that the full game has a system for storing relationships between games, which builds up the character over time, where as the demo version just has you reset your Friendship to 4.

Normally, at this point in the review, I like to write up a short play example that demonstrates the mechanics I just summarized. I don't think I can really do that for this game. The ebb and flow of the Dream/Friendship/Wonder/Feeling economy really takes place over a whole game and I can't really do it justice here. If you need help understanding how everything connects, as I did, try downloading the demo and diagramming how things affect other things in a flowchart as you read through it. That's what worked for me.

The demo also has more limited character options. There are four types of animal spirits available (Fox, Cat, Dog, and Bird) which is two shy of the full game (lacking Rabbit and Raccoon Dog). This isn't really a big deal, there's still enough diversity to go around the table, though Raccoon Dog seems to be a popular choice when the full game is played. Characters also get a few less powers to play with in the demo version (3 as opposed to a maximum of 5 in the full game) but that could be a feature, speeding up character gen a bit.

I adore Golden Sky Stories for the unique genre niche it fills. The demo is wonderful game available for free, which should make it easy for any gamer to give it a try, broadening their gaming experience with very little investment. The included pages on setting, GMing advice, and prepared scenario could even make the demo an ok choice for potential players who have never played an RPG before, though their experience with this game might not translate to more typical games readily. All in all I give it a solid 4 warm hearts out of 5.

If your group tries it and likes it, you can grab the full game for more character options and improved long term play. And if your REALLY like it, there have been expansions released for playing as fairy-folk in the English countryside (Faerie Skies) and a D&Dish setting (Fantasy Friends). If you want greater insight before trying the demo, Six Feats Under recorded an actual play of the full game with translator Ewen Cluney using some content from the Colors of the Sky expansion. There's also a pretty cool song that a fan made about the game.

Kotion EACH G9000 Gaming Headset Review / Test

Today I am testing another gaming headset. This time it is the KOTION EACH G9000 GAMING HEADSET. I should note that my main interest in testing gaming headsets is the microphone. This is because I am searching for a headset that can function as an all in one podcasting options.

I also need to note that I am connecting this to my computer using a SABRENT USB AUDIO ADAPTER.

If you are interested in this microphone, it will set you back $25 on Amazon

What's In the Box

  • Headphones (w/ Attached 3.5mm TRRS / USB Cable)
  • TRRS Splitter
  • Documentation

Performance / Features

The build of this headset is nothing that will blow you away, but it is much better quality than you would expect out of a $25 headset. The build is all plastic, but it feels like sturdy plastic and it allows for a bit of bend without feeling like you're going to break it. The padding on the ear pieces and the headband are both fairly comfortable, and while testing them for a few hours, I never felt uncomfortable. Lastly, the cable is a cloth wound cable and it feels great.

The headphones offer 40mm drivers and list a frequency response of 15Hz - 20kHz. When listening to music, they sound find. The bass response does not sound great, and the high end does not sound great. They only sound decent, which is what you would expect out of a cheap headset. But for most purposes, they will suffice.

No information was provided for the microphone. When speaking it does seem to provide a relatively decent frequency response and sound pretty natural. It does not seem hollow or thin like the majority of gaming mics I have tested out before, and therefore, I was impressed. However, it does seem to have an omnidirectional polar pattern which is not the best option for a gaming headset. This means it picks up lots of background noise.

Pros

  • Good Mic Sound
  • Decent build
  • Comfortable
  • Plug & Play
  • Super Cheap

Con

  • Omnidirectional Mic
  • Only decent headphone performance

Conclusion

The headphones just have decent performance, the microphone sounds great, but it picks up lots of background noise due to the omnidirectional polar pattern, and the build quality is decent.

I don't think that this headset will work for audiophiles, or gamers who are really concerned with background noise. If you are just looking for a headset to skype with, or if you don't mind background noise, then this is a great option at a low price.

If you have any additional questions about this headset, leave them in the comments on this site or on the youtube channel, and I will try to reply ASAP.

Razer Kraken USB Gaming Headset Review / Test

Today I am testing out another gaming headset. This time, it is the Razer Kraken USB Gaming Headset. I should note that my main interest in testing gaming headsets is the microphone. This is because I am searching for a headset that can function as an all in one podcasting options.

If you are interested in this microphone, it will set you back $55 on Amazon

What's In the Box

  • Headphones (w/ Attached USB Cable Cable)
  • Documentation

Performance / Features

The build of this headset is decent. It has an all plastic build, but it is rather nice plastic. It has a lot of give/bend, so I think these might be able to handle some abuse. The ear padding is very comfortable, but the headband padding is lacking, but it's not overly uncomfortable. The microphone feels decent and it does articulate which is essential on any gaming headset. Lastly, the cable is a standard rubber cable, so there is nothing special going on there.

The headphones have 32mm Drivers that offer a frequency response of 20Hz - 20kHz. When I was testing the audio quality, they sounded decent, but they did seem to be a little bit bass heavy, and lacked a little bit of presence in the high end.

The microphone is listed as unidirectional with a frequency response of 100Hz - 12kHz. I'm going to say it. The mic does not sound that great. It seems hollow and thin, and very unnatural. I suppose this could help the voice stand out among gameplay though.

Pros

  • Decent build
  • Comfortable
  • Plug & Play
  • Well known company (hopefully means good customer service / quality assurance)

Con

  • Microphone Sounds Hollow
  • Bass heavy / Presence Lacking in Headphones

Conclusion

This is not going to be a headset that you should buy if you are planning on recording voice overs or gaming commentaries. That's because the microphone sounds pretty bad. This IS a headset you will want if you are looking for a decent headset in the $50 price range, for GAMING and GAMING ALONE! The microphone will most likely cut through the gameplay and allow your friends to hear you. It also does pretty well at ignoring background noise.

Simply put: this is a gaming headset designed to fit the needs of gamers.

If you have any additional questions about this headset, leave them in the comments on this site or on the youtube channel, and I will try to reply ASAP.

Rode Podcaster USB Dynamic Mic Review / Test

Today I am testing out a microphone that I have been dying to try out. The Rode Podcaster. This is a Dynamic USB Microphone designed for, you guessed it, podcasters.

If you are interested in this microphone, it will set you back $230 on Amazon.

What's In the Box

  1. Microphone
  2. 3-meter USB Cable
  3. Mic Mount
  4. 5/8" to 3/8" Mic Stand Adapter
  5. Documentation
  6. 10-Year Warranty

Performance / Features

The build of this microphone is AWESOME! It is an all metal body and has some really nice weight to it. The top of the microphone has an LED indicator so you know it is plugged in and receiving power. On the bottom of the microphone, it has a 3.5mm Headphone Port & Headphone Volume control. This allows for zero-latency monitoring.

The microphone has a 28mm Dynamic Capsule with a Cardioid polar pattern. It picked up audio a little bit farther off to the sides and a little farther back than I would have liked. This means it will pick up a bit of room noise or background noise, but this does have a benefit. It means it has a forgiving polar pattern, allowing you to move a few inches in each direction without the sound of your voice dropping too much which is GREAT when podcasting.

The frequency response is 40Hz - 14kHz. On the voice, I think it sounds great, but I should mention that I am partial towards broadcast microphones, and I like the tone of it. Some people may not like the sound. For acoustic & electric guitar, I don't think the mic performed that well. This is no surprise since the microphone is marketed as a PODCAST microphone, implying it is designed for voice, and not instruments.

It offers 18-bit and 8kHz - 48kHz recording resolution. Something else I need to mention is the amazing performance when it comes to noise generated by the microphone. Most USB mics develop excessive noise around 65-75% mic gain. I didn't begin to hear any excessive noise until I hit 90-95% on this mic.

Pros

  • GREAT Voice Tone
  • Built in Pop Filter
  • Plug & Play
  • Zero-Latency Monitoring
  • Awesome Build Quality
  • 10-YEAR WARRANTY!!!

Con

  • Does not perform well on Instruments
  • Lacks Mic Gain Control

Conclusion

This microphone is AMAZING, but as I stated in the video, it fulfills a very specific need. It was designed for podcasters, meaning it was fine tuned to sound good on voice, and that's exactly what it does. It sounds great on voice. When you try to expand the use and record instruments, it performs decently, but it lacks the shimmer required for acoustic, and doesn't accurately capture the electric.

That being said, if you are a solo podcaster who will be recording near your computer all the time, OR if you want to up your voice over game for YouTube, I would 100% recommend it. However, I would recommend getting the shockmount or a nice boom arm to avoid the mic picking up table bumps, or spring noise from your boom arm.

If you have any additional questions about this mics, leave them in the comments on this site or on the youtube channel, and I will try to reply ASAP.

The other main feature is an unofficial history of the band From First To Last. This was brought on because Matt Good, the guitarist, and only original member posted a picture saying that he was writing new music for new FFTL!

Superhero Sunday: Batgirl

Ladies and gentlemen let us dawn our cowls and jump into this Superhero Sunday with Batgirl.

The History

The legends that are Bill Finger and Sheldon  Moldoff with DC comics created Batgirl in 1961. Though it wasn't til 1967 and Barbra Gordon took the mantle that Batgirl would gain her iconic status.

First appearing in Detective Comics #359- "Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl." She would continue to appear in Detetive Comics and become a member of the "Batfamily" which included the likes of Nightwing and Robin.

Its a shame that it wasn't until 2000 that Batgirl recieved a solo series but since then her popularity has only grown and she has really become a staple of the Bat-Universe at DC.

The Character

Batgirl has been the name for many women in the DC universe this will focus on Barbra Gordon who has the longest time under the mantle and is the current Batgirl for DC (But heres the list of all to hold the name Batgirl). Barbra Gordon aka 'Babs" is daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon. Her 1967 appearance was helping stop the kidnapping of Bruce Wayne by villian Killer Moth, while she didnt know that this attracted the attention of the Dark Knight and helped stop the villian. Barbra was only getting started. Barbra would continue to prove she was tough and willing to be a hero. Dressing as Batgirl she would fight and eventually Batman takes her under his wing. Batman originally disapproved but she was determined.

Batgirl would fight in team-ups for years but her popularity went down and Alan Moore in 1988 wanted to write a book that would try to break Batman and have the Joker show Batman that anyone can be morally broken, The Joker tries to prove his point when he takes photos of Barbra Gordon and paralyzes her in order to ruin Jim Gordon and provoke Batman.

Barbra though paralyzed wasn't broken she only came back stonger willing to help Batman as information genius Oracle. While she was Oracle she would help the team take down villians and a new Batgirl in the form of Cassandra Cain would come along.

Later after the events of Infinte Crisis Stephanie Brown (The Spoiler) would take the mantle of Batgirl and it would go back to Cassandra too. Then the events of Flash Point occur and reset the continuity of the DC Universe it is here that Barbra regains her mobility with an experimental surgery and takes back the role of Batgirl. She continues as Batgirl in todays continuity as well in the NEW 52. Even in her revamps Barbra Gordon/Batgirl stay fresh and have creative teams,

Why this hero?

This is simple there have been many to take the name Batgirl but there is only on Babs. Barbra Gordon is the reason to like Batgirl and the wonderful people who refused to let her become a simple plot device or just a "female robin" She has help her own in DC stories and titles.

Batgirl has fought villians, faced the Joker, tussled with Batman and paralzyed but her mantle has stayed true to being a strong female character in a male hero world.

I remeber her on Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond. I always enjoyed the character and this s porobably because I love the Bat-Family as a whole but she fits in the family perfectly. So go check her out.
