Podcastage Episode 32: A Love Letter
So after my first video podcast I realized an issue. I have two segments of podcasts that are somewhat time sensitive. Friday Night Action Movie Book Club, and Music Monday. So for those two podcasts they will come out the same day as the audio podcast, or not. Who knows..."Friday Night Action Movie Book Club on Saturday" does have somewhat of a nice ring to it. Anyways, here is Episode 32 of podcastage which is the newest installment of FNAMBC!
What's New on Netflix: 04/09/15 - 14/15/15
Okay. Where to begin. I don't know about you, but I have always wished that Netflix would post a coming soon for their releases. It would make searching through the endless titles on the apple tv, or xbox, or smart tv, or whatever so much easier because I would know what I want to watch. So I found a way to give you guys that information that I was so desperate to have. This will be a once a week post letting you know the releases for the coming week!
Avail 4/9
Crank (2006)
Jason Statham, Amy Smart, Carlos Sanz, Efren Ramirez, Dwight Yoakam, Reno Wilson
A hit man who has been poisoned learns that he can elude death if he keeps his adrenaline pumping as he races through the streets of Los Angeles.
HBO Now is Here
After what seems like ages of waiting, HBO Now is finally here! Just in time for Game of Thrones and Silicon Valley (which I'm sure is no coincidence). I am struggling to type this without shaking from excitement. Ever since the announcement that this was going to be a thing, I have been counting down the days without knowing an actual release date. Now I can watch GOT live (maybe) or a day after it airs without hounding my friends for their HBO Go account information, and I can watch as many movies as I can handle, and hopefully get caught up on my Doug Loves Movies challenge.
If you don't know what HBO now is, it is a way to get HBO without needing cable and that pesky bill. From what I understand it is similar to HBO Go, meaning it is a VOD service. There is a chance that it is exactly like HBO Go in the sense that you are able to watch programs live as they air, but I can neither confirm nor deny that. Looking at the app quickly, it does look like it will be more of a VOD service rather than a live streaming service, but only time will tell.
As of right now it appears that this service is only for Apple devices and certain broadband providers, so if you are a droid user, you may be out of luck...but not for long. On the HBO Now site, it does say that they will be expanding to more providers in the near future.
I will be subscribing to this service which runs $14.99/month and let you know in more detail how it works after I use it for a few weeks. Now go get caught up on Game of Thrones, and if you haven't watched Silicon Valley yet, DO IT!
Subscription Boxes - Loot Crate Edition
I will be the first to admit, I am no Subscription Box connoisseur, and I am no early adopter of this new trend. I will also be the first to admit that I have a slight addiction to these periodical boxes, or as I like to call them Glory Filled Happy Receptacles. I just thought I would write a quick review for the boxes that I have been receiving. The first box that I will discuss is...
Loot Crate
Cost: $20/month
Category: Geek/Gaming
Subscribe: www.lootcrate.com/join
Analysis: Loot crate is the first sub box that I located and tried out. The idea of receiving random geeky gifts from people who seem to understand the stuff I love resonated with me like the that gift to scan and explode peoples brains, but I digress. I signed up immediately because I had to try it out and $20/month is something I can handle.
I was counting down the days until I received my first box and when I got it I was not too disappointed. Lets be honest for a second, for $20 a month, you can't expect everything to be a homerun and they simply aren't. This boxes theme was Villains and it came with a Joki (Loki & Joker Mashup) T-shirt, a Joker poster, Rocket Raccoon Comic, Deadpool Socks, Darth Vader Keychain, Necessary Evil DVD, and a Bowser Magnet. Of these items, the only things I was truly excited for were the Comic (which I unfortunately had already purchased and read, but this was a variant, so I was okay receiving a duplicate story), the socks (which I have never worn), the DVD (which I had already bought on DVD), and the Magnet. Of these four items, I only used the magnet because you can never have enough magnets on your Fridge.
Fast forward until now, I have received 7 boxes, and there aren't any that have had all perfect items. In fact there have been quite a few boxes that have been complete bombs, very much like the green lantern film, but I am not going to give up on Loot Crate Just Yet. I feel like there is going to be some glorious crate in the coming months.
Consensus: If you have $20 a month to spare, it is a fun thing to get, but if $20 is something that you don't have room for in your budget, I wouldn't recommend spending the money unless there's a certain box that screams out to you. I should also let you know that once every few months they do have sales of previous boxes, so if there are any left over, you can purchase a crate that has stuff you know you will like.
The Last Pen You'll Ever Need
This is the fist post that I am making recommending a product. The reason I am doing this is because I spend way too much time researching products and trying out a bunch of bullshit before finding a piece of gold...I want to share that knowledge with you to help you avoid the pain of buying a product and being completely disappointed with it. That's actually kind of bullshit... Honestly, I just want to justify all the time and money I spend online reading 100 reviews about which pen, wallet, or phone case is best. But that's irrelevant. Let's get into it-
Let me share a story with you. When the USA started going into space, they realized that they needed to develop a writing device that was able to write in zero gravity. They spent $1.5 million dollars creating the astronaut pen. Their astronauts could now write in space, and it cost less than $2 million!!! You know what the Russians did? They took pencils.
However, if the USA wasn't so reckless with their funds, we wouldn't have the Fisher Space Pen. The last pen you will ever need. The model that I have been using for a few years is the Fisher Bullet Space Pen. Not only can you write in zero g, but you can also write under water, over grease, or at any angle. Of course I have completed absolutely zero of these tasks, but it's nice to have the option.
The reason I love this pen is how small and reliable it is. It is incredibly easy to keep in your front pocket, and it doesn't seem to get in the way. There are no sharp points that poke holes in your pocket and you don't have to worry about the pen leaking or worry that it will not write.
As someone who was a bank teller for almost two years, this pen saved me on multiple occasions, and now that I am just a jerk who has a terrible memory, it is incredibly beneficial to carry a small notebook in my back pocket and a pen in my front to take notes of important to do lists, or jokes, or anything that I should not forget, but inevitably will.
It should also be noted that this pen is guaranteed by Fisher, so if you have any malfunctions or defects with your pen, you just send it back and they will either repair it or replace it at no cost to you other then the shipping cost to send it to them. I suppose you could be like the Russians and just carry a pencil with you, but then you'll need to bring a pencil sharpener and you'll constantly be poking yourself with that bullshit sharp point. I guess what I am saying with this post is, if you write things down, write them with this pen!

March 2015 Arcade Block Unboxing
I'm back just a few days later with another unboxing video. This is for the March 2015 Arcade Block. This box was much better than it's counterpart the March Horror Block. It came with 2 t-shirts (A far cry shirt and a random shirt) from Shirt Punch.
The real treat inside this box was a Ryu keychain LED light that exclaims "Hadouken" with such ferocity that you feel as though you have transported to the streets for a fight with you disappointing Blonde counterpart Ken.
They also included a copy of Batman Arkham Knight #1 which is one of the last things I need...more comics. But it's still pretty cool. The most useful item in this box was a "Note Boy Sticky Notepad" which is a small notebook that is made to look like a gameboy but contains multiple sizes of post it notes. To be honest, the fact that the item I am most excited about is nothing more than a clever way of storing post it notes has left me truly depressed.
All in all it was a decent box but nothing that makes me want for next months arcade block. Perhaps next months will be better.
March 2015 Horror Block Unboxing
This is my first blog post on this page and it's not really even going to be a blog post as it is an unboxing video. I suppose I will write about the unboxing though. I got into this type of video the moment I discovered subscription boxes and I have not been able to get enough of them. I don't really watch them to see what's in the boxes, but more so to find new boxes that seem like something I would like.
I have had my fair share of shitty boxes, but I have also had boxes where I love absolutely everything in them. This box is somewhere in between good and bad. The March Horror Block had a few items that were pretty cool, but nothing worth writing home about. As this is my second box and the first one was barely better than bad, I'm thinking that once my subscription ends, I will not renew it.
I can't in good conscience say to not order this box. All I can say is if you are me, do not order this box. If you are a die hard horror fan, consider picking this subscription up. Go to their site: www.nerdblock.com/horror and look at their past boxes. That's all I can and will say. Until next time.
