BSP-167: YouTube Loses $70 Billion, Facebook Bans "Hate Figures", & YouTube 2019 Priorities

On episode 167 of the BSP I analyze Susan Wonicki’s blog update surrounding YouTube’s 2019 goals and what we can learn from it, YouTube apparently causing a $70 Billion market cap loss for Google, Facebook’s move to ban Alex Jones, Milo Yiannopolis and more.

NOTE: I completely forgot to mention that the $70 billion "lost" by youtube is a loss in Alphabets Market Cap.

On The Subject: Of John Wick

An ex-hit-man comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that killed his dog and took everything from him. Obviously this means we are breaking down the John Wick films and the OTS crew decided there favorite characters, moments and deaths. We also decide what doesn't work in a nearly perfect action movie!

John, is a man of focus. Commitment. Sheer will. Something you know very little about. I once saw him kill three men in a bar… with a pencil. With a fuckin' pencil. Suddenly one day he asked to leave. It was over a woman, of course. So I made a deal with him. I gave him an impossible task. A job no one could have pulled off. The bodies he buried that day laid the foundation of what we are now. And then, my son, a few days after his wife died… you steal his car, and kill his fuckin' dog.

  • "it’s an action film driven by music, which I think is an apt description.”- Edgar Wright

  • The idea of Baby Driver came about in 1994 when Wright was editing his 1995 debut movie A Fistful of Fingers, which was also his first solo script. At the time, he was obsessed with Spencer Blue Explosion’s “Bellbottoms” (the song that is playing during the first heist in Baby Driver) then began to imagine a car chase and bank robbery set to that song.

  • Some of the movies Wright took inspiration from for Baby Driver included HeatPoint BreakThe DriverBlues BrothersStraight TimeBullittThe Warriors and even the Mad Max franchise. Wright adored how George Miller did Fury Road and credited it to his detailed planning.
